BALKOTEC® – boards are high-pressure laminates (HPL). They are produced on the most advanced machines based on state-of-the-art technologies. Cellulose paper webs impregnated with high-performance synthetic resins are bonded together at a high pressure and temperature to form HPL in precisely specified combinations.

BALKOTEC® – boards can be produced in a wide variety of colours, patterns and structures. Please refer to our product range for further details.

Processing:
BALKOTEC® – boards can be processed like hardwood or coated particle boards. Carbide- or diamond-tipped woodworking tools are suitable for this purpose.

• The boards can be sawn.
• The boards can be cut and milled.
• The boards can be drilled.

Attention! Make sure to use sharp tools to prevent the cutting tool from running untrue and the cutting edge from being exposed to extreme heat. A circular saw bench is ideal to cut the boards. The teeth should always enter the material from the visible side. Sharp edges of a cut should be slightly chamfered with sandpaper.

Fasteners for balcony balustrade cladding:

FLOATING POINT

Depending on the required expansion allowance, the bore has to be drilled at a slightly larger diameter than that of the fastener: fastener shaft diameter plus 2 mm per meter of the cladding material starting from the fixed point. The size of the fastener’s head must always be big enough to cover the whole bore.

The fastener is mounted so that the cladding panel can move. A riveting gauge has to be used to attach any rivets. The rivet head’s defined gap allows the parts to move in the bore (allowance + 0.3 mm). Screws may not be fastened too tight. Do not used any countersunk screws.

The bore’s centre in the substructure must correspond to the bore’s centre in the BALKOTEC® – board. Use a drilling aid! Start to fix the fasteners from the middle of the board.

FIXED POINT

Fixed points ensure that swelling and shrinking movements are distributed evenly (by half). The bore diameter in the BALKOTEC® B – board is equal to the fastener’s diameter.

Only use fasteners made of non-corrosive materials. Balcony screw (A2): M5 with a blank or varnished head, head diameter: 16 mm,
screw length = clamping thickness + ≥ 9 mm

Aluminium blind rivet: 5 mm with large head, colour varnished for aluminium substructure, rivet head: 14 / 16 mm

Breakaway force of the rivet mandrel: ≤ 5.6 kN/ rivet sleeve according to DIN EN 755-2

Stainless steel blind rivet (A2): 5 mm with large head, colour varnished for aluminium substructure, rivet head: 14 / 16 mm

Breakaway force of the rivet mandrel: ≤ 5.8 kN
